Our Technology

Document Scan use top quality high capacity scanners and robust tried and tested software. We do however constantly look for new ways to improve our technology and software to provide an even better service as we move forward.

All of our scanners are the top of the range models from Canon and Xerox which deliver output resolutions of up to 600 x 600 dpi and offer a 'smoothing' function to reduce the moiré effect and enhance quality. Advanced text enhancement improves the legibility of light/faded text, and a dual light sensor system prevents wrinkle shades on a document appearing on the scanned image.

The following is a list of other useful and intelligent features that our scanners have.

Colour scanning

In the vast majority of cases it is not necessary to scan documents in colour. However there are documents such as plans, drawings, reports, brochures and photographs etc. that you may wish to be scanned in colour. Our scanners can scan in full colour at resolutions up to 600 x 600. As part of our service we follow your instructions to the letter and will always make sure that requested items are scanned in colour even when they are mixed in with black and white documents.

Intelligent blank page detection

Our scanners are set to scan every single piece of paper on full duplex (both sides) and using this intelligent setting it will detect whether the reverse side of a page contains real information or if it is simply a blank page. It will also detect if the reverse page has bleed through from the front of the page. Once a bleed or blank page is detected, this side of the page is automatically discarded.

Intelligent double feed detection

Documentation that has previously been bound together has a habit of clinging together even after the staples / binder have been removed. It is because of this that it is quite common for the roller feed on a scanner to occasionally drag two pages through at the same time resulting in only one page actually being scanned. This is known as a double feed.

The intelligent settings on our scanners will detect any double feed and when it does it will simply stop and alert the scanning operative to rectify the problem. This ensures that all documentation is scanned and not a single piece of paper gets missed!

Intelligent staple detection

The intelligent staple detection feature on our scanners will detect any staples that might have slipped through the preparation process. If the scanner detects a staple, it will simply stop and alert our scanning operative to remove it before the document can be scanned.

Optical Character Recognition

Optical Character Recognition or OCR is a technology that allows you to search for specific words or phrases within the document. Using OCR will make the PDF document searchable. One of the ways it can do this is by scanning the images of the document and converting what it has scanned into a text layer and then embedding this invisible layer over the top of the images (pages).

Scanning of all sizes

We can scan documents of all sizes. Our standard scanners are set to scan anything from the size of a stamp up to A3. We also have specialist equipment for larger documents such as plans and we are able to scan these up to A0 size in full colour.
